Ribozyme

Metal-Blast did it again, we scored a great interview with up and coming metal band from Norway, "Ribozyme".
They have an new album out, and are currently touring, so we were lucky we got ahold of them. Enjoy!

1. hey, whats up with Ribozyme these days?

Currently we are touring on our latest album "Blacklist Mercy". The
record was released in Norway last september.

2. for the readers who might have never heard about you, who the
hell are
you and why should they care?

Ribozyme has elements from different worlds, and from our experience,
this seems to appeal to everything from black-metallers to elderly
men.

3. any plans for a album release in the US, or the UK?

Yes, we are planning to release the album sometime in 2007. We don't
know when, but work is in progress!

4. whats the biggest crowd you've ever played in front of?

hmmm... 1000 people or something. At the Lost Weekend festival.

5. you play a different sort of metal, than most norwegian metalbands
thats
sold outside of norway,
why do you think its not more non black metal bands from norway
that gets
famous out in the rest of the world?

People seem to think of Black Metal / Norway as something exotic
and "real".
We had this experience ourselves when touring eastern europe where
people came to our shows, simply because we were a norwegian band.

Furthermore, it seems that many musicians consider the norwgian BM
as high quality music, and look to the norwegian bands to find inspiration.

When it comes to other genres, i think it mostly goes the other way.

6. you say on your website that your music is,
" Ribozyme`s music is dark, but not Gothic; angry, but not violent;
sad, but
not tearful, not hard, but still heavy."
what genre would you put that in, and can you compare your sound
to a more
wellknown band, so the readers can get an idea of what they can expect?

We call it Hard Rock.
Motorpsycho, NIN & Tool....

7. how is the life on the road for you guys? is there alot of "partying
with
naked chicks", and the usual rock clichë?

Get your appetite out, eat dinner at home.

8. what is the coolest artist/band you've toured or played with,
and who was
the biggest assholes, and why?

1. Suzuka from trondheim and Sadie Hawkins Dance from Manchester,
england are all really nice people.
2. 120 days.... Bad karma.

9. rate the following dark bands on a scale from 1, to 10, 1 being
a big
pile of shit, and 10 being the gods of dark metal

Nick Cave 5
Type O Negative 2
Danzig 1
Black Sabbath 10
Dark Throne 7
Paradise Lost 0
Alice in Chains 10

10. if you could go back in time, and make sure one huge metal band
never
got signed to a record deal,
wich band would that be, and why?

Opeth! They suck, and soon somebody has to stand up and tell people
just that.

11. a collection of smaller questions:

Have you ever wore make up on stage?

A gorilla mask if that counts.
(only 4 men from new york are allowed to wear make up on stage)

Who is th biggest rockstar you partied with?

Knut Borge & Herodes Falsk.
(yes, we consider them to be rockstars)

Last time you signed a autograph on a some chicks tits?

summer of 2006..

Last time you thought about quitting the band, and get a "real job"?

A real job is not an issue.

12. do you think its too hard, or too easy to get a record deal
these days?

the concept of "the record deal" has totally changed over the last
years...
It's no longer a question of getting a deal, it's about finding the
right deal.
We've seen the crappiest bands sign with indie-labels nowadays, all
we can do is hope that the label doesn't do it's job...

13. your myspace site, says you are going to play a few shows in
Norway in
January,
any plans to tour outside in europe, or the us?

We're planning to tour Europe first around May, and later sometime
next fall... The US is a bit too far away for now..

14. what town has the best audience?

Trinec, Czech Republic!
Ochtrup Rockcity, Germany!
Volda, Norway!

15. any crazy stories from being a rock band on the road?

Yes. Once we were attacked by a naked man with a samurai sword.

16. are there any other "unknown" bands out there, friends of yours
that the
fine readers of Metal-Blast should check out?
